A restaurant worker told a teenager to sign a “sex contract” because he didn’t want her to go to the police.

Raymond Chan, 45, is now accused of luring an 18-year-old girl to his flat and raping her.

Chan, giving evidence for the first time at Lewes Crown Court, said the girl initiated sex with him after he offered her a lift home in a taxi He told a jury at Lewes Crown Court that he became paranoid and demanded written proof of her consent because he had been accused of rape in the past.

Chan was charged with raping a 22-year-old bar worker in May 2003 but the case never went to trial.

Two years later he was charged with raping a 33-year-old nurse after inviting her into his flat because she was locked out of her home.

He was cleared after telling the jury at his trial that the woman willingly had sex with him.

Chan, of Finsbury Road, Brighton, said he saw the teenager outside Subway in North Street, Brighton, in January last year.

She was asked for money by a rough sleeper but said she had been short-changed and did not have enough money to get home.

Chan said he told the 18-year-old she could share a cab as far as his flat as it was on the way to her home.

He claimed that when they got there she asked to use the toilet before she went on to meet her boyfriend.

The 45-year-old said the girl spoke about her father working for a porn magazine and that she worked as a waitress but wanted to get into the porn business.

He told the court that he could not have known these personal details unless she had revealed them.

He added: “I told her that was a bit strong and to start off doing something like lap dancing.

“She started doing a lap dance to me, bending over and stripping off her clothes.

Chan claimed they then had “heated sex”. He added:“It was absolutely consensual sex. I did not rape her.”

The restaurant worker said the teenager seemed to become “cold” towards him after checking messages on her mobile phone.

He said: “I got a bit paranoid because of my previous court experience.

“I asked her to sign a piece of paper saying that the sex we had was consensual.

“She signed her name and was going to write something but changed her mind.

“She said that I might use it to blackmail her in the future so she did not write anything down.”

Chan denies a single charge of rape.

The trial continues.
